Expressing sincere appreciation to retired Madison Police Department Captain Kelly Donahue for her years of dedicated service to the City of Madison.

Body

WHEREAS, Kelly Donahue first joined the Madison Police Department as an officer in 1997; and,

 

WHEREAS, Kelly Donahue recently retired from the MPD and served in many capacities to include the promoted positions of Sergeant beginning in 2008, Lieutenant beginning in 2013, and Captain beginning in 2019; and,

 

WHEREAS, retired Captain Kelly Donahue specifically served the North Police District in many roles during her career to include the positions of patrol officer, the Northport Neighborhood Police Officer, Patrol Lieutenant, Detective Lieutenant, and last as the Captain of the North District; and,

 

WHEREAS, retired Captain Kelly Donahue also served the entire Madison community as a SWAT negotiator for several years, and held leadership roles with the MPD Honor Guard; and,

 

WHEREAS, retired Captain Kelly Donahue volunteered as a mentor and volunteer coordinator for over 15 years at the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) Kids Camp in Wisconsin; and,

 

WHEREAS retired Captain Kelly Donahue was an active member of Law Enforcement United and rode a bicycle 1,000 miles over ten days to honor her fellow police officers who were killed in the line of duty across our nation; and,

 

WHEREAS, retired Captain Kelly Donahue always led her fellow members of the MPD with distinction, dedication and reliable, calm leadership, and was recently awarded the 2023 Madison.com People’s Choice Law Enforcement Officer, 

  

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison express their sincere appreciation to retired Madison Police Department Captain Kelly Donahue for her years of dedicated service, and particularly for the past three years leading the North Police District.
